Environmental/Climate Justice

300
Students Engaged

Overview

The ECJ team is dedicated to raising education and awareness around current events in climate action and justice. Our work is organized into three subprojects: ECJ Awareness Week, Actions and Activism, and the Climate Classroom podcast. Each of these projects is designed to engage communities, inspire action, and spread awareness as well as empowerment—not just among high school students, but to anyone ready to listen and make a difference.

Past Projects

  • ECJ Awareness Week
    • Our Future has organized Environmental Climate Justice Awareness Week in high schools across Oregon. This week-long event featured five key activities: a mini documentary screening series, the Rubbish to Radiance art competition, a volunteer day, a speaker panel with the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality, and an interactive eco-quiz
  • Actions and Activism
    • The Actions and Activism project focused on advocating for food sovereignty in low-income communities by sharing educational materials, raising awareness of existing resources, and empowering community members to organize around their own food solutions. We partnered with local city planners and collaborated with urban farmers to expand education and support efforts. This team also created a toolkit or “go-to-guide” for communities to foster connections, creativity, and begin efforts in their area.
  • Climate Classroom Podcast
    • The Climate Classroom Podcast was created to fill the gap in accessible and engaging climate education. Its goal is to provide a fun, positive, and informative resource for listeners of all ages. New episodes are released monthly on Spotify, covering a wide range of topics—from overconsumption to fish, bees, and beyond.

"I've been able to connect Our Future projects with the environmental club at my school and have enjoyed seeing tangible results from our work, such as students supporting a bill and a compost system being implemented at our school."

Legislative Action

The Legislative Action Team is committed to educating and participating in Oregon's Legislative process not only within our network but statewide. We do this by participating and supporting bills through writing testimony, meeting with legislators, and in both rallying and testifying at Salem’s capitol.
