Brief history of how our school, and its students, have addressed environmental, climate, racial justice and/or social justice work
Sheldon High School actively engages in environmental and climate initiatives through its Environmental Club. The club spearheads projects focused on community and school maintenance and improvement. Additionally, affinity groups within the school address issues related to racial and social justice, recognizing the interconnected nature of their work with environmental improvement.
Club goals, priorities and interests (that are aligned with Our Future)
- Community action and civic engagement.
- Becoming certified as an Oregon Green School (or upgrading to the next level).
- Enhancing waste reduction practices, including implementing and maintaining schoolwide composting.
- Training opportunities for other students at your school (e.g. climate science, how to get involved in environmental/social justice issues).
- Art projects that will raise the awareness of climate change, or the importance of sustainability/social justice.
- Recruiting student representatives on a “youth climate council” in our city and/or county.
