Brief overview of how our school, and its students, are addressing environmental, climate, racial justice and/or social justice work:
We have a few climate change and environmental clubs at Westview, and we currently have a Black Student Union, as well as other ethnic clubs. However, overall, we haven’t had much climate action progress. We hope to improve this by implementing some of the Our Future climate actions at Westview, and to bring more awareness to such topics. We would also hope to bring attention to the OECE legislation that we hope to have passed, which would incorporate climate education into schools.
Club goals, priorities and interests (that are aligned with Our Future)
- Being involved with legislative actions.
- Becoming certified as an Oregon Green School (or upgrading to the next level).
- Enhance your waste reduction practices (e.g. composting, paper use, recycling, beverage containers, reusable utensils in the cafeteria).
- Training opportunities for other students at your school (e.g. climate science, how to get involved in environmental/social justice issues).
- Increase club membership (including recruiting Freshman/Sophomores into your club/team).
